"It's clean, green and made from a bean," says oil salesman Donald Dorr about his latest endeavor, biodiesel fuel, which he's selling from his Manchester service station.

Dorr, renowned for his free Thanksgiving dinners for the entire community, is now giving something else to the area. Granted, marketing biodiesel fuel is a for-profit venture, but he's helping to reduce our country's dependence on foreign oil, all while taking a little bit better care of our environment.
Dorr will also be running his entire fleet of two dozen trucks on the fuel, which will be a heck of a lot better on our olfactory nerves than their regular diesel counterparts.

Further, as some biodiesel fuel can smell like a Fryolater or a chicken drumstick when a "green" motorist passes by, Dorr's oil has no discernible smell. (It's debatable whether a food smell coming from a car is bad thing ... it might boost revenue at local restaurants from people who salivate at the tasty exhaust fumes.)

We're not sure if biodiesel is the next big thing of the future as regards motor vehicles and alternative forms of energy. But we still welcome it nonetheless.

It's a great first step. If biofuel were to be used side-by-side with hybrid and electric cars, or cars that run off hydrogen fuel cells, we could easily be witnessing not only a sea change in how we operate our motor vehicles, but also a greater awareness overall about our environment.

For Dorr to be at the forefront of such a tidal shift is admirable and noteworthy. Let's hope he's leading the way on a path that we all can follow for the betterment of our county, our state and our planet.
