A look at using biodiesel

A look at using biodiesel

Biodiesel is made with different percentages of diesel fuel and extracted soybean oil or sometimes animal fats and other vegetable oils. Most cars on the road don't use diesel, but big vehicles such as semis, buses, farm equipment and boats do. Amusement companies, local muni- cipalities, state parks, trucking companies and colleges are switching over.

New soybean crops are planted each year, making it a renewable resource and boosting business for local farmers. It also lowers emissions making the air safer to breathe than with diesel.

Sixty-five plants are producing biodiesel in the United States currently and 50 others are under construction. In Michigan, three plants are being built in Milan, Bangor and Gladstone.
