Boise Mayor Dave Bieter today issued a directive that biodiesel fuel be used in city-owned vehicles whenever possible.
And the mayor's timing was right on the money as 11 Treasure Valley Stinker Stations are now making the clean-burning alternative fuel available at selected pumps.
"Biodiesel is gaining popularity because it's good for the environment," Bieter said. "By moving to biodiesel as much as possible, our city fleet will be cutting petroleum use ion those vehicles by 10 to 20 percent. We hope businesses and the public follow that fine example."
Before the Stinker Stations in the Valley started offering biodiesel at their pumps, it was only available from a wholesaler in bulk.
"And bulk is 5 to 10 thousand gallons a time, so now you can buy 20 gallons at a time of the Stinker biodiesel," said Charley Jones, President and CEO of Stinker Stations.
The stations upgraded their pumps and equipment to carry the environmentally friendly gas blend after receiving an 124-thousand dollar grant from the U-S Department of Energy and the Idaho Department of Water Resources.
The stations will offer a blend of 10 percent biofuel and 90 percent petroleum diesel at first.Jones aid he expects all 48 Stinker Stations in
