A former Flint resident says he wants to build a biodiesel fuel plant in Genesee County and is asking the county Board of Commissioners for help.

Kenneth C. Reed, chairman and chief executive officer of Natural Alternative Fuels of Southfield, said he had a vision to build a plant in the county and asked commissioners Tuesday for their assistance in moving such a project forward.

A former Flint resident, Reed talked briefly after a county board meeting Tuesday with Tim Herman, chief executive officer of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Reed said a biodiesel plant could breath new life into the county's economy.

Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources like corn and soybeans. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend, according to the National Biodiesel Board.
