Spearfish school buses switch to biodiesel fuels

The deal to use the biodiesel fuels was struck in late July, according to the company that will be providing the fuel. Many national air quality studies indicate that the biofuel blend burns cleaner and more efficiently than ordinary diesel fuels.

Dave Peters, Spearfish superintendent, said he's pretty proud to have the district be a part of the fuel conversion project, spearheaded by the bus company.
During their August regular school board meeting, Spearfish officials approved the year's Dakota Bus Service contract, including rate increases, but no formal mention was made of the biodiesel conversion decision. Peters said this morning that while the district does not expect any cost savings at this point from the fuel change, the move should help stabilize fuel cost fluctuations a bit more in the future.
