Many school districts throughout the Midwest have been involved in converting to bio-fuels, including 37 districts in Iowa that are using blends of ethanol and ordinary fuels for their school bus fleets.

"O2Diesel Corporation (AMEX: OTD) today announced (July 27, 2006) that the school bus and tour service provider, Dakota Trailways, of Spearfish, S.D., will begin the first of a two-phase implementation to convert its entire school and tour bus fleet to O2Diesel's proprietary ethanol-diesel fuel blend. The school bus implementation, which begins immediately, services the Spearfish School District 40-2. Conversion of the 25 tour buses to O2Diesel(TM), some of which service the Mt. Rushmore National Monument, will commence later in the year," reads a July release on the corporation's Web site.

Dave Peters, Spearfish superintendent, said he's pretty proud to have the district be a part of the fuel conversion project, spearheaded by the bus company.

During their August regular school board meeting, Spearfish officials approved the year's Dakota Bus Service contract, including rate increases, but no formal mention was made of the biodiesel conversion decision. Peters said this morning that while the district does not expect any cost savings at this point from the fuel change, the move should help stabilize fuel cost fluctuations a bit more in the future.
